Overview
Having a baby is one of the most rewarding experiences a couple can have together. You want to preserve those memories not only for yourself, but so your baby can share them later on in life, when he or she is older. A baby book is the perfect way to do this. With a baby book, you can keep track of everything from the pregnancy through the delivery, both in text and pictures. Learn how to make a baby book that you can cherish for a lifetime.
Step 1
Choose a word processing software or a desktop publishing program to create your baby book pages. Microsoft Word or PagePlus (free desktop publishing) are good choices. Both of these programs have baby book templates you can use as the basis for your own book.
Step 2
Make this an ongoing project. Start during the pregnancy and write in the baby book as if it's a journal. Date each entry and try to keep track of any important events that happen during the pregnancy. Make note of special moments you will want to share with your baby when he or she is older. Although life can be hectic after your baby is born, add entries about his or her birth and entries about the many special "firsts" in your child's life.
Step 3
Customize a template with page borders. The template may already have page borders on it, but choose something unique to your child. Consider a theme, whether animals, comic characters or flowers. Base your page borders and fonts on these.
Step 4
Add a three-dimensional element to your baby book by gluing the pregnancy test onto one of the pages. You can even glue your baby's first pacifier on one of the pages. Cut scraps of paper out and glue them to the pages as backgrounds for the many pictures you should take of your baby. Consider writing a personal poem or story to add to the book. Mom and dad should write a special letter to baby that captures their emotions at the moment of birth. This is something your child will want to read when he or she grows up.
Step 5
Purchase padded, decorative book covers at a hobby store or online. You can punch these covers with a three-hole punch and tie them together with ribbon to create a beautiful cover for your baby book of memories.
