Most everyone receives mail, so business postcards can reach potential customers that don't access the Internet or watch television. A key challenge, however, is getting people to read your postcard and not throw it in the junk mail pile. Lure potential new customers with friendliness.
Step 1
Greet your reader. Open your postcard's message with a friendly "Hi!" Don't open with "Dear Customer" or "Local Resident," which sound incredibly impersonal and will send your postcard to the trash bin. If at all possible, print each postcard with the potential customer's name in the greeting. The more personal the postcard, the more comfortable your customer will be.

Use inviting colors and a happy image. Red is often an overused marketing color and some consumers identify this color with a marketing ploy. Try equally attention-grabbing colors such as orange or neon colors.

Use a happy and interest-piquing image. Postcards that have clear, interesting pictures attract the attention of potential customers. Some successful postcards have featured photographs of cute animals that include word balloons with catchy or funny phrases luring the reader to flip the postcard over for more information.
Step 4
Keep your message simple and concise. Don't overburden your reader with a flood of information. They are giving you a few seconds of their time, so give them the pertinent details. For example, if you are having a sale, tell your reader in bold letters at the top of the postcard, "50% Off Sale." This quickly lets them know what is going on. Then, follow up with the vital information such as who you are, where the sale is at and how long it will last.
Step 5
Make the postcard valuable to your customer. Nothing gives a friendly feeling like usefulness. Give your customer a prize for giving your postcard a read. Print a coupon for your services on the postcard.
