The third leg of the 4 Deserts, also known as the "Race of No Return," concluded on 1 November 2008 in front of the great Giza Pyramids of Egypt. After 250 kilometers of sand, rocks, heat and a brutal 100 kilometer stage, competitors had just five kilometers to run into the finish line to receive a finisher's medal for completing one of the most challenging endurance events in the world, the Sahara Race.
Now established as one of the best endurance athletes in the world, Ryan N. Sandes of South Africa easily took first place in the overall division, with the experienced ultramarathoner Nina Breith taking first in the women's division. Despite some nagging injuries, Team SIPA / Teko Socks of Denmark, which included Henrik Eiberg, Thomas Roende and Jacob C. Nielsen, captured first place in the team division. The popular Yukako Hayashi of Japan, also a well known illustrator of children's books, was awarded the Spirit Award, and Rob D. James of Hong Kong, a former Gurkha and current Marketing Manager for Manchester United, was awarded the Sportsmanship Award.

The Intel Corp. provided aidstation laptops to outfit the cybertent which was the most popular tent at the campsite each evening. The Pepsi-Cola Company (Egypt) supplied more than 10,000 bottles (1.5 liter) of water for the Sahara Race. RacingThePlanet raised US$45,000 to support the first-ever Operation Smile mission in Cairo, providing free surgery to dozens of children born with facial deformities.
The Sahara Race will be aired on television networks in Korea including KBS and TBC, and TransWorld Sports (IMG) for broadcast in more than 80 countries. The Wall Street Journal will feature an article about the event in its December luxury magazine supplement.
