Sag Harbor Bridge Renamed for Marine Hero

NOVEMBER 18, 2008 Young Marine hero, Jordan Haerter, who saved the lives of fellow soldiers in Iraq, was honored by renaming the Sag Harbor Bridge The Lance Cpl. Jordan Haerter Veterans Memorial Bridge.
The 19 year old Marine was killed by a suicide bomber on April 22. Haerter, who trained Iraqi police in Ramadi died when a truck with suicide bombers exploded. Haerter and a fellow marine opened fire on the truck, before the explosion killed them, potentially saving the lives of his comrades.
Over 1000 people attended the renaming of the bridge. Haerter’s father said that his son enjoyed spending time at Sag Harbor when he was alive, and that this tribute is fitting to his son’s memory. Forty marines out of Haerter’s battalion— 1st Battalion, 9th Marine comrades, known as the walking dead, attended the ceremony, praising Haerter’s valor.
