March of Dimes Baby Bus Tour to Recognize Prematurity Awareness Month

Updated: 11/9/2007

PHILADELPHIA

A "nursery on wheels" will roll into West Chester, Pa. as the March of Dimes(R) Every Baby Has a Story bus pulls into town on its nationwide tour to recognize Prematurity Awareness Month. CIGNA Foundation is a national sponsor of the bus tour, which will stop at the West Goshen Plaza, 985 Paoli Pike, Route 202, West Chester from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, November 12.

The bus stop in the Philadelphia region is part of a national storytelling project celebrating babies, providing an opportunity for all who climb aboard to be part of a "a national baby book." While on the bus, families are invited to record a story about the baby in their lives, those born healthy as well as those who struggle to survive and thrive.

"By sharing their stories, countless families across America are bonding together in a special way to learn about prematurity and to inspire each other to raise healthy babies and children," said Gianna Jackson, executive director of the CIGNA Foundation.

The Every Baby Has a Story bus crisscrossed the nation on its road trip, collecting hundreds of memorable baby stories in 16 cities along the way. The tour began October 17 in New York City and doubled back to the East Coast, where it will conclude in Times Square in New York City on November 13.

For those who can't get to the bus, a web site, www.everybabyhasastory.org powered by Scrapblog.com, allows people to add their stories through an interactive scrapbook page, including photos, text or video.

14 Years of CIGNA Support for March of Dimes

Through CIGNA's participation in March of Dimes Walk America and the Prematurity Campaign, CIGNA and its employees have contributed more than $20 million to the March of Dimes since 1994. In 2003, CIGNA became the exclusive sponsor of the March of Dimes' multi-year campaign aimed at decreasing the rate of premature births through public education and increased research.

CIGNA's corporate headquarters in Philadelphia will be lit in pink and blue lights throughout November, part of an effort coordinated by the March of Dimes to use landmarks around the country to help the public remember the importance of preventing prematurity.
