ShelterBox Response Team members Graham Higgins from Helston, Cornwall, Peter Pearce (AUS), Jens Pagotto (Bath), Pat Prendergast (Swindon) and Tom Lay (Somerset) returned from the DRC (Congo) on December 15.
Volunteering ShelterBox Response Teams trained up to five different Scout groups from the Goma region in the usage of the box and its contents. ShelterBox often works with the Scouts worldwide sharing important information on the maintenance of the tent, essential for it to withstand the harsh conditions it is used in.
400 tents were deployed to Kabati where 30,000 internally displaced persons fled from conflict zones. Now the Kabati camp has to move to Mugunga III which is 18 kilometres away, this tough journey along a lava bed of boulders has been lined with 8 separate ShelterBox tented way-stations. The SRTs on the ground chose to put these break points in place to elevate just some of the hardship these communities where facing.
Working with United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) and the World Food Program (WFP), ShelterBox was able to establish an important contribution to the main processing camp.
