(Paul Overlie/ Liberty County Times) When the Halter’s got confirmation that the stray dog had an underbite, just as Buck had, they knew they’d found their lost dog. The Halter’s then drove all night to see Buck. They were overjoyed at the dog’s resilience and were glad to take him back home.
Missing Dog Found After 6 Months in Sub-Zero Temperatures
FEBRUARY 12, 2009Aparna Atluru, HappyNews StaffA golden retriever named Buck was reunited with his owners, thanks to several residents of Montana and a whole lot of good fortune.
Buck darted away from his owners’ home in Washington state last summer after being frightened by a train whistle. He had been missing for six months, leaving his owners, Kim Halter and her family, very worried. Halter and her 17-year-old son, who had had Buck since he was a puppy, put up posters and tried not to give up hope. Keeping up morale became hard as winter came, with temperatures dipping to 20 below zero.
It was 27 below zero when Jason Wanken spotted a stray golden retriever on his family farm north of Chester. Wanken and his mother lured the dog in by offering him food. Wanken’s mother remembered hearing about a dog named Buck that had gone missing last summer, but thought it had been way too long for this to be the same dog.
The Wanken’s contacted Halter on January 31 and emailed several pictures to them. When the Halter’s got confirmation that the stray dog had an underbite, just as Buck had, they knew they’d found their lost dog. The Halter’s then drove all night to see Buck. They were overjoyed at the dog’s resilience and were glad to take him back home. Read more: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/29068865/
