Oil Industry Enthusiatic to Collaborate on New Policies

Although Obama did not get the bipartisan cooperation desired for the stimulus package, steps toward collaboration are already seen in another arena. At an industry conference held in Houston last week, oil industry executives expressed enthusiasm in working with the administration to make new policies to lower carbon emissions. Executives are still split on the best way to lower emissions; some favor a carbon tax, while others prefer the cap-and-trade system that is popular in Europe. A cornerstone of the Obama campaign, global warming is now a center stage issue in Washington and inside the oil industry.
