Man Makes Watery Rescue
MARCH 16, 2009Aparna Atluru, HappyNews StaffGood Samaritan Richard Harper leaped into a flooded drainage area, saving a 9-year-old girl from the cold waters.
Harper noticed the girl’s 7-year-old brother, Hayden, crying and pointing to the drainage ditch where his sister, Brittany, was trapped. The children were coming home from school that day and had walked down in the drain to walk into the water. Brittany lost her footing and slid in. Harper, who had been driving by the area, held onto Brittany and a cement water pipe until rescue workers arrived.
“His heroic efforts definitely saved her life,” Richland Hills Fire Chief David Anderson said.
