I live my life by reading signs. No, I am not referring to road signs or banners outside shops proclaiming 'Sale - 60 percent off.' I do glance at these and give them their due, but I place more importance on the signs that come my way from events occurring around me.
When something unfavorable happens, however trivial or critical, I no longer blame my luck or bad fortune. Quite the contrary, I set my thinking hat on to determine what the sign points to.
For I now perceive every event I would earlier have labeled a misfortune, as an indication of something needing to be changed, done or left undone. In doing so, I have elevated my spiritual status to being a very fortunate person. Nothing is ever a misfortune anymore. Every unpleasant event, however inconsequential, is a sign telling me that I was walking down the wrong path. I take encouragement from it to dwell on how the opposite or an alternate path will work better for me.
I started believing in this mode of thought after events that initially left me shattered. A relationship that tapered off leaving me wondering where I had gone wrong, a job that offered me very little work satisfaction, in circumstances (time and place) when an alternate career seemed unthinkable and so on.
We are sometimes told by our elders and well-wishers that 'time makes things better.'Memories fade and we move on. Today, I don't think that is the best way to get over negatives, for we never get reasons, and without a reason, we don't grow from an instance as much as we are able to.
The line of thought I now ascribe to is that something happens to me because I have to grow from it, not because it is my misfortune. Today, I would believe it a misfortunate only if I failed to reach out and find a new bearing, a new perspective, a new horizon.
The day I chose to find a reason for failure, I found a reason that compelled me to walk a different path to success. It starts off small but becomes a habit. Albeit, a very positive one. With practice, you find reasons even for non-occurring or occurring events (you always desire the opposite) that would otherwise be insignificant happenings, but actually are part of a scheme of the universe to guide you to your goal. I actually believe there is a pattern our lives are woven into.
Perceive the universe as an interconnected play of forces conspiring to guide your journey through life. When something untoward occurs, rather than start a blame game believe you are being called upon by a higher force to make constructive changes to your character or lifestyle or surroundings. Use this question as a positive 'mantra' to success. As you learn to live in harmony with the universe, it will ease your passage by increasing the frequency of desirable coincidental occurrences and reducing situations that oblige you to think, 'What is this a sign for?'!
