College Students Join to Protect Environment

Updated: 4/24/2008

BOSTON

Experience Inc, (http://www.experience.com), the nation's leading provider of career services for college students and alumni, today announced the introduction of Experience Green (http://green.experience.com), an initiative that will bring together students and alumni from 3,800 colleges and universities to demonstrate their combined power to protect our environment.

Beginning on Earth Day 2008, over 4 million college students and alumni across the Experience network will be called to action and asked to show their support for the Experience Green initiative. For every new person who joins the online community, Experience will plant a new tree in his or her honor. Each tree annually removes more than 50 pounds of carbon dioxide from the global atmosphere, thereby reducing the impact of CO2 on global climate change. Trees return this gas to the soil, replacing it with oxygen while also converting the carbon into food, shelter and many other positive benefits to our world(1). If each of the 4 million students and alumni join the effort, the resulting forest of newly-planted trees would remove more than 200 million pounds of carbon dioxide - and that is just the beginning.

The Experience Green initiative will go far beyond planting trees. Most importantly, this online community, sponsored by Chevrolet Fuel Solutions (http://www.chevrolet.com/fuelsolutions), will:

-- Hire interns for various service organizations nationwide that support environmental protection and the development of clean energy sources

-- Unite the voices of millions of students and graduates and communicate with government leaders to ensure the collective force of the next generation is heard

-- Help graduates identify and pursue career opportunities with "green", environmentally-minded employers

-- Keep the next generation informed about how their collective efforts are adding up and making a difference

-- Engage leaders to share their insights and inspiration with the next generation, and serve as role models to encourage the students and graduates to take action

"There is a lot of rhetoric about the importance of protecting the environment, but unfortunately too many people still don't understand that even small efforts add up to make a big difference," says Jenny Floren, Founder & CEO of Experience, Inc. "Experience Green and America's college students are going to prove this by going beyond words and taking actions that demonstrate the impact of getting involved - individually and collectively. As the workforce of the next generation begins to make career-related decisions, they will make it clear that an organization's commitment to protecting the environment is a very important factor."
