Bernard Levine, a retired veterinarian from Millington, NJ, found an injured goose in the yard of his home. He said on a TV interview: “My wife is very animal conscious --- I knew she’d be very upset--- and she looked out the window and saw the goose and said "We have to do something for this goose!"
So he fed the goose and then captured it with a net and the help of Department of Fish and Wildlife workers. Levine then performed surgery on the goose, removing the 26” arrow as well as pellets which had come from an air gun. The surgery was performed at a local animal hospital founded by Levine in 1956.
The goose was then taken to the Raptor Trust for rehab, and after 3 weeks was released back into the wild.
“It feels great to see him free and liberated, enjoying life the way a goose should, out in the wild,” Said Levine.
