The Los Angeles Daily News says Carolina Garcia will be its new executive editor.
Daily News Publisher Douglas E. Hanes announced Garcia's appointment in a story on the newspaper's Web site on Monday.
Garcia takes over on April 28 from Ron Kaye, who resigned Friday after more than 20 years at the paper.
The 53-year-old Garcia most recently served as executive editor of The Monterey County Herald for five years. Before that, she was managing editor of the San Antonio Express-News from 1998 to 2003.
The Daily News is part of the Los Angeles Newspaper Group, which is owned by Denver-based MediaNews Group Inc.
