Kids Wish Network: Hailing a Little Hero

At just 11-years-old, young Callum from Universal City, TX is already considered by many who know him to be a true hero. Up to now, Callum had imagined heroes were just animated figures in comic books with capes and super powers. However, this courageous boy has learned that there are other ways people can be seen as heroic. He did, unfortunately, learn it the hard way.

Callum was involved in a very serious car accident and suffered a traumatic brain injury as well as additional injuries. Since that awful day, he has been in and out of the hospital and has endured rigorous and often painful rehabilitation therapy. This amazing kid however, has faced every day with a motivation and determination that astonished and inspired his caregivers. In fact, the staff at Christus Santa Rosa Children's Hospital where he was being treated was so inspired by Callum's courage and hard work, that they named him their Hero of the Month. This honor is part of a program created by children's charity, Kids Wish Network.

Kids Wish Network's Hero of the Month program was designed to help little heroes who have had to face some of life's unfortunate experiences. These children do not have life-threatening illnesses but rather have had to endure some extremely sad or extraordinary circumstances.

Pediatric caregivers at hospitals and other children's care facilities that participate in this unique program can nominate a child they feel deserves special recognition. Each child who receives the nomination will be presented with a certificate, official Hero T-shirt, a Guardian Angel coin and a gift card valued between $200 and $500, depending on their age. Some facilities celebrate with a party for the child.
