Global Research Technologies, LLC (GRT), a research and development company dedicated to the commercialization of technology for the capture of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, announced today that the Comer Science and Education Foundation (CSEF) has assumed the investment interest of the late Gary Comer. Founded in 2004 by Allen B. Wright, inspired by the climate scientist Dr. Wallace Broecker, and originally funded by the late Gary Comer, the founder of Lands' End(TM), GRT is an early-stage technology company. GRT is dedicated to the vision that air-capture, a concept theorized and refined over time by Dr. Klaus Lackner, is a critical and feasible technology for carbon dioxide management and climate change mitigation.
GRT President Allen Wright said, "Gary Comer's vision has been an enormous inspiration both to me personally and to our company. His generosity enabled GRT to develop air-capture as a viable solution to the global problem of carbon dioxide build-up in the atmosphere. The Foundation's assumption of his ownership interest is a continued expression of support by the Comer family for the mission of both GRT and The Foundation itself."
Bill Schleicher, President of GCI, Comer family advisor and CSEF Vice President, added, "The Foundation and the family continue to support the GRT mission. The late Gary Comer was convinced that climate change is real and that the air-capture of carbon dioxide was a potentially critical climate change mitigation tool. He would be greatly encouraged by GRT's proof-of-concept progress and by the commercial prospects of its technologies."
The Comer Science and Education Foundation was founded in 1998 to support research efforts relating to climate change and to improve inner city education. The late Mr. Comer became interested in climate change in the summer of 2001 when he sailed through the Northwest Passage with minimal contact with sea-ice. CSEF, whose President is Guy Comer, the son of the late Gary Comer, has dedicated over $40 million since 2001 to support funding of climate change research.
