There will be a special 3D screening of Toy Story 3 at this year’s Edinburgh International Film Festival on Saturday 19 June.
The audience at the Edinburgh International Film Festival will be the first to see Toy Story 3, following its opening in the United States the previous day.
Greeting audiences at the red carpet will be the film’s exuberant rough-and-tumble cowgirl Jessie and the toys’ dependable leader and everyone’s favourite cowboy, Woody.
Toy Story 3 welcomes Woody (Tom Hanks), Buzz (Tim Allen) and the whole gang back to the big screen as Andy prepares to depart for college and his loyal toys find themselves in… daycare! These untamed tots with their sticky little fingers do not play nice, so it’s all for one and one for all as plans for the great escape get underway.
A few new faces - some plastic, some plush - join the adventure, including iconic swinging bachelor and Barbie’s counterpart Ken (Michael Keaton) a thespian hedgehog named Mr. Pricklepants (Timothy Dalton) and a pink, strawberry-scented teddy bear called Lots-o’-Huggin’ Bear (Ned Beatty).
Directed by Lee Unkrich (co-director of Toy Story 2 and Finding Nemo), produced by Pixar veteran Darla K. Anderson (Cars; Monsters Inc.), and written by Academy Award®-winning screenwriter Michael Arndt (Little Miss Sunshine), Toy Story 3 is a comical new adventure in Disney Digital 3D™.
The exclusive Special 3D Gala will celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Toy Story trilogy.
The first Toy Story film, directed by John Lasseter in 1995, was a phenomenal success and set an industry precedent as the first full-length feature film created entirely with CG animation, and when Toy Story 2 opened five years later, it was the biggest box office hit of the year.
The gala builds on Disney’s long-standing relationship with EIFF that has produced festival premieres including Disney/Pixar’s Academy Award®-winning WALL•E and Ratatouille in recent years.
Artistic Director Hannah McGill was delighted to welcome the latest instalment of the trilogy. “To have the first screening after it’s unveiled in the US is an incredible honour for us. This is going to be one of the highlights of the Festival, and I'm looking forward to working with our friends at Disney to make it truly spectacular!”
