An extraordinary young Watford City girl recently experienced her ultimate dream come true thanks to Kids Wish Network, an organization in Florida that grants wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses. 17-year-old Letitia couldn’t believe it when she got her wish to meet her all-time favorite singer, Kenny Chesney, in person. After battling so many various medical crises during her life, Letitia was thrilled to take a special break away from the worries of her condition and enjoy an exciting meeting with her idol!
Letitia was born with spina bifida, a condition that results from a neural tube defect which occurs when the spinal column fails to close completely before birth, causing spinal cord nerve damage. Letitia is unable to walk and is confined to a wheelchair. She has had 27 surgeries, half of those in just the last two years. Letitia has been extremely sick during this time and has been experiencing a great deal of pain. She also has a cyst in her brainstem that doctors are unable to remove because of its delicate location. The cyst has cost Letitia movement in her right arm.
Letitia’s adventure to meet her favorite country superstar began soon after her mother, Judy, learned about Kids Wish Network from a close friend. After all that Letitia had been through in her young life, Judy was hopeful that her special daughter would indeed qualify for a wish with the charity.
After completing Kids Wish Network’s application process, Judy was later thrilled to learn that Letitia had indeed been approved for a wish. There was absolutely no hesitation when this sweet-natured country music fan was asked for her number one wish: she wanted to meet Kenny Chesney!
Letitia’s wish coordinator, Madeline, quickly began working to make her wish an extra special one! She not only arranged for hotel accommodations for the family in St. Paul, where Kenny Chesney had a concert scheduled, she also secured tickets for his show and, most importantly of course, a personal meet and greet with Letitia and her idol.
Letitia’s wish began when she and her family checked into the beautiful St. Paul Hotel. “The hotel was just wonderful,” said Judy. “The staff was great and everyone there seemed to know who she was. Everybody was so nice to her. Titia kept saying, ‘Mom, everybody knows me!’” The managers even arranged for tickets to the Science Museum of Minnesota and took care of all of the family’s meals. “We were treated like royalty!” said Judy.
The next day was Letitia’s big one. Before she knew it, Letitia found herself in the back of a sleek limousine on her way to the Xcel Energy Center. Judy said that her daughter was overwhelmed as she was introduced to her country hero. “He was really, really nice,” said Judy. Letitia presented Kenny with a mosaic that she had made herself. On it, she had fashioned a sun, beach scene, palm tree and his initials. “He said he knew right where he was going to put it,” said Letitia. “He said he’s going to put it in his beach house!” Judy said that the singer seemed genuinely touched by the gift. “He said he’s never gotten anything like that. He was amazed!”
Letitia and Kenny chatted for a few minutes and posed for pictures. “He was so nice,” said Letitia. “And really sexy!” After the meet and greet, Letitia and her family headed to their seats to watch the show, which the group unanimously agreed was fantastic. “He puts on a really, really good show,” said Judy. “Titia definitely had an awesome time!”
Letitia returned home from her trip with nothing but wonderful memories. “She just had the best time,” said Judy. “It was really like a dream come true!” The first thing on Letitia’s list was to get her pictures developed. “I showed everyone at school and gave some pictures to my teachers and friends. I’m so happy!”
Kids Wish Network would like to thank the following for helping to make Letitia’s wish come true: the St. Paul Hotel, Total Luxury Limousines, Xcel Energy Center and of course, Mr. Kenny Chesney!
