NEW YORK

It was a fashion disaster-free night at Sunday's Tony Awards, even though one actress lost her Chanel the night before.

After an airliner lost her luggage — and dress — Alice Eve (''Rock 'n' Roll'') said she remedied what could have been a disastrous situation by venturing Sunday to a Prada store for a replacement frock.

Eve's choice: A flapper-style dress in champagne-hued satin and black trim, and black and gold heels by Christian Louboutin, whose red-soled party shoes have become an awards show mainstay.

Martha Plimpton, nominated for featured actress in a play for ''Top Girls,'' arrived with her father, actor Keith Carradine, at Radio City Music Hall in a silver mermaid dress designed by Carolina Herrera.

''I just wanted to look simple and striking — that's all I wanted, and Carolina's the perfect person for that,'' said Plimpton, wearing chandelier earrings from jeweler Fred Leighton.

Laura Bell Bundy, who portrays Elle Woods in the Broadway musical version of ''Legally Blonde,'' wore an understated black dress with a lace bodice.

Unlike her fuschia-loving alter ego, Bundy was going for ''anything other than pink. ... I was like, 'Give me something black!'''

Also in black: presenter and Tony-winning actress Kristen Chenoweth, who went with a simple black gown by Nicole Miller and brought boyfriend Charlie McDowell as an accessory.

Presenter Marisa Tomei stepped up the drama in a sweeping red dress with embroidered black flowers, while Brooke Shields looked chic in a black sequin jumpsuit by Proenza Schouler.

Idina Menzel, who won the 2004 actress-musical Tony for ''Wicked'' and was in the original cast of ''Rent,'' made a strong statement by pairing a strapless brown dress with a necklace of green and orange stones that looked like a shoulder strap.

Priscilla Lopez, who won a Tony in 1980 for ''A Day in Hollywood/A Night in the Ukraine'' and now co-stars in ''In the Heights,'' was all gold down to her ruffled gown, jacket, sandals and pearl necklace, offset with gold and diamond accents.

Laura Benanti, who won the featured actress-musical Tony Sunday night for her role of Louise in ''Gypsy,'' donned a one-shoulder sequined cranberry gown by Marc Bouwer, and Kerry Butler (''Xanadu'') glittered in a bright purple number by Elie Saab.

Amy Morton, nominated for best actress in a play for ''August: Osage County,'' was statuesque in a long mauve-colored dress she ''found in a store. ... It's a 'nothing,''' said Morton, part of Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre troupe.

Morton hurried to the ceremony straight from a matinee of Tracy Letts' Tony winning best play, and barely had time to change clothes.

''I just came down an hour ago, so it was, 'Get dressed as fast as you can and get over here' — which is good; you don't have time to think about it,'' she said, before heading inside the cavernous theater for the celebration of Broadway's best.
