Be Kind to Humankind Week Celebrates "Forgive Your Foe Friday"
Lorraine Jara, BK2HK
AUGUST 14, 2008 Today we celebrate forgiveness. Please remember to practice kindness daily, not just for this week.
Forgiveness is a tough thing. As described below, it truly does take much effort and perseverance to forgive.
Forgiving others who have hurt us, or forgiving ourselves, is a very difficult thing. God asks us to forgive ourselves and each other. He does not ask us to be chummy with the person we need to forgive, just to learn to forgive and let go, to be free of the hurt, anger and inner turmoil we may be feeling.
It may take years before we can actually become completely released from the anxiety we feel, especially if that person is still somehow involved in our lives and we are continually hurt by them. But prayer is powerful and if we pray on it, forgiveness and strength within us can happen.
The people who seem to seek pleasure in hurting others need our prayers too. Life is so short, yet eternity is so long. Which would you choose? To try to appreciate everyday, consider it a blessing to help others someway - even if it is simply a kind word.
"I know I choose to be kind. Don't get me wrong, I slip sometimes. It takes work to be kind especially when we feel angry. So hang in there. I know that you are a kind hearted person or you would not be interested in reading about "Be Kind to Humankind Week." Happy Forgive-your-foe Friday!
Lets be free of un-forgiveness once and for all!
