Be Kind to Humankind Week Celebrates "Motorist Consideration Monday"
by Lorraine Jara, BK2HK
AUGUST 25, 2008 It is that time of year again everyone, "Be Kind to Humankind Week" (BK2HK) will be our focus for the following week with a daily affirmation dedicated to being kind and thoughtful. BK2HK was created in August of 1988. It is 20 years old this year! We should practice kindness daily, not just during this celebration.
I have been driving for 34 years now and I still have a difficult time practicing what I preach. Driving can be so stressful. The important thing is that I try very, very hard to practice courteous driving habits everyday. We must be extra careful during warmer months and be alert to motorcycles, bicyclists, and other vehicles on the road. This year we are seeing more people making the choice to ride their bicycles instead of driving, due to the increasing price of gas. BK2HK encourages people to choose more responsible and healthier modes of transportation.
Don't drive when it's not necessary and consider walking, riding your bike, or taking public transportation when you can. And most importantly... Do not drink and drive!
