Youth set to become Idaho's youngest Master Diver
SEPTEMBER 15, 2005By Happynews Staff BOISE, Idaho, Sept. 15 /PRNewswire/ - He can't drive a car, but this Saturday, twelve-year-old Cody Brown, of Kuna, will become Idaho's youngest Junior Master Scuba Diver when he completes his 50th - yes, 50th-underwater scuba dive at 11:20 a.m.Cody Brown is the son of Dave and Judy Brown, of Kuna. His father, Dave Brown, is president and CEO of Idaho technology firm EmergeCore Networks. Cody has spent a little more than a year working on his certification with the help of Boise's Dive Magic diving certification program and store. With the help of his technology-focused dad, Cody has photographed and chronicled his adventures on his own website, http://www.scubacody.com.To complete a Junior Master Scuba Certification, an individual must be between 12 and 15 years old. Cody completed his first certification, as an Open Water Diver, at the age of eleven last year. That accomplishment was exciting, but for Cody, it only served to fuel his desire. He quickly achieved Advanced Certification. Then he certified in Junior Rescue. He also certified in areas of specialization that included underwater photography. He has taken an especially strong interest in videography and now films all of his diving adventures in high definition video. In all, Cody's Master Scuba Diver certification requires a total of 50 dives and the completion of 5 areas of specialization, along with certification in Rescue, Emergency First Response and First Aid. Cody is even certified to provide pure oxygen, when necessary as a part of First Aid."In my three years of training, I haven't seen any young person even attempt to take their certification this far," said Michael Branchflower, an owner/partner of the Dive Magic training program and store. With children, you will almost never find an individual with both the physical strength and the mental discipline to accomplish an achievement like this. Cody possesses both attributes. I have never known anyone to be as highly motivated in their certification and training as Cody has been."
In the past 12 months Cody has completed dives in Jamaica, Fiji, Cozumel, Cabo San Lucas, Playa Del Carman and Grand Cayman. He's also become one of the states youngest new entrepreneurs: Together with his father, Cody has begun Scuba Cody Productions, a videography business that films in high definition.
For anyone who would like to attend Cody's certification, he will begin his final dive Saturday morning, September 17 at 11:20 a.m. at the Bob Rice Pond by the Clocktower Apartments in Boise on Pleasanton Drive off of 27th and State.
