With all of the world's tragedies—wars, fires, terrorists, hurricanes, murders—everything is depressing.
So … I had a thought.
We need to throw a giant, world-wide BBQ. Heck, make it a fish fry too!
Sounds too silly, doesn't it? But let's just set here a minute and think about it. What comes out of big-ole BBQs? Well, to start with, we have the get-together and get-to-know-your-neighbor factor. We have to spend the time and energy to actually sit down and talk with people we may have never had the time or inclination to speak to before. We can learn about them, find out they're good people too and have things to say that are of interest.
Then there's the food aspect. No matter our ills or concerns, a really good meal can make us feel a whole lot better—even if just for a while. Things appear a little brighter when we have a pleasantly full stomach and a sweet tooth that's been satiated. Our "happy" endorphins are working hard to digest the ribs, sausage, potato salad, cole slaw, baked beans, fried fish, banana pudding and all the other good stuff we just chowed our way through.
Finally, there's sharing. When we have a big-ole BBQ, everyone brings a little something to share to the event. So, there's a sample of everyone's favorite food. And while we're sharing food, we might share information, ideas, ideals and thoughts on life and living it. we might share a lot more than we'd ever think to.
Yep—I think we need a BBQ.
