The islands of Hawaii, jewels of the Pacific, lie the farthest away from any other landmass on earth. Breathtaking wonders await visitors who come from distant lands to experience the sights, sounds and scenery of this Polynesian paradise. Waterfalls, active volcanoes, coral reefs, rolling green hills and ethereal sunsets are just a few of the things you will see while visiting incredible Hawaii Island.
Known as the "drive-up" volcano, Kilauea is also the most active volcano on earth. Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is home to Kilauea. Most lava reaches the sea through underground tube systems, but occasionally it travels overground in surface flows, which are stunning to witness.
The summit of Mauna Kea hosts a vibrant astronomy community, including the Keck, Subaru and Canada-France observatories. The summit, nearly 14,000 feet in elevation, is considered ideal for these highly precise scientific activities because the conditions are so clear and the summit is not subject to the light pollution found in big cities.
Historic Parker Ranch was once the largest privately held cattle ranch in the United States. At this ranch, paniolo (cowboys) worked the range generations before the West was won on the U.S. Mainland. Today, when you visit Parker Ranch, you can take ATV rides, hunting adventures and historic home tours.
