Kids Wish Network Provides Little Girl Her Dream Laptop... in Pink!
JANUARY 22, 2010Kids Wish Network A little girl suffering from Leukemia is granted her wish for a computer through national children’s charity, Kids Wish Network and some wonderful local sponsors.Just last December, Kaitlyn, a bubbly 8-year-old with a fondness for the color pink, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. This is a malignant cancer of the white blood cells. So far, Kaitlyn has been dealing with chemotherapy treatments up to three times a week and must continue for another two years. She has also endured surgery to open a port in her chest so that doctors can administer her medicines and she also relies on a wheelchair for traveling long distances.A friend of Kaitlyn’s grandmother referred the little girl to children’s charity Kids Wish Network in the hopes that Kaitlyn would receive a wish through their wish granting program. After going through the application process and getting her wish approved, Kaitlyn found herself talking to Wish Coordinator Vanessa and entrusting her with her wish of having a bubblegum pink laptop of her very own. With the help of Wish Funding Specialist Megan and some outstanding local sponsors, Vanessa set out to grant Kaitlyn’s wish. Unfortunately, before her wish could be granted, Kaitlyn was sent back to the hospital. While there, her wish finally came true and made her stay a little less upsetting. According to Kaitlyn’s mother, Lynn, Kaitlyn’s wish was granted in the most extraordinary way: one part at a time. “We got the first box in the mail and it was a bunch of cables. The second had a flash drive and the third had a case for a laptop…Kaitlyn said, ‘Mom, I think I’m getting it [the computer]!’ when she saw the cables. It was great!”When the perfectly pink laptop arrived, Kaitlyn was overwhelmed and overjoyed to discover that her new wish laptop was larger than her mother’s laptop back home. “She especially liked that,” said Lynn. In addition to the laptop, Kaitlyn received a printer, a leather case, a flash drive and a special box filled to the brim with all sorts of toys and games picked out especially for her by her Wish Coordinator. “She was so overwhelmed,” said Lynn. “It came at the perfect time too, since she was hospitalized since the 14th of December. It gave her something to do while she was in the hospital.” Kaitlyn has just recently been discharged and has hardly stepped away from the happy glow of her wish computer’s screen. Kids Wish Network would like to thank the following for helping to make Kaitlyn’s wish extra special: F.O.P. Parma Lodge #15, Kasidonis Heating & Cooling Inc., David & Deborah Kulka, VFW Post 3345 Men’s Auxiliary and Dell Computer Corporation.
