Global Water Group Launches Worldwide Program
MAY 16, 2008By Press Release, Global Water GroupGlobal Water Group announced its pledge today to begin building strategic partnerships with companies that excel in different areas of the water business, NGOs, and church organizations to help raise awareness about one of the biggest humanitarian problems faced today, Safe Drinking Water. GWG is expanding their longtime mission to provide access to safe drinking water to the poor by establishing more enterprises in undeveloped countries.Bruce Wilkinson first saw the need for a new approach to the world water crisis while working in the water business for fifteen years before organizing GWG. GWG was founded as a non-profit corporation and a resource for private enterprises to aid global water problems. GWG works to reduce water-related illness and death by establishing self-sustaining projects that make safe drinking water available to the poor. Already GWG has made a lot of progress towards their vision of a world where all people have access to safe drinking water. The founder of GWG, Bruce Wilkinson has established over 500 efficient local retail water refilling station models called Water Enterprises.Water enterprises are the most successful, practical, convenient and least expensive way to produce a very high quality drinking water. Each single Water Enterprise is self-sustaining and usually serves about 5,000 people (depending on its size and the areas needs) and can process up to 6,000 gallons of water each day per machine. GWG can provide the equipment for one enterprise for about $10,000.00 whereas most non-profit organizations will spend over $20,000.00 for the same type of program that does not have the capacity to serve as many people. GWG has set a goal over the next ten years of providing equipment for over 50,000 Water Enterprises which would save roughly 950,000 lives a year.In a world where water is becoming an increasingly precious commodity, these strategies and partnerships cannot come soon enough. The UN recently stated that they believe that by 2025 two thirds of the world will be in a state of water bankruptcy. It has been said that water will be the “oil of the twenty-first century” and that it will be the cause of future wars between nations. Unfourtunately, the effects of the water crisis on the world’s poor are devastating. The world’s number one killer is unsafe water. The absence of a reliable clean water supply contributes to an estimated 80 percent of disease and death in the developing world. It is estimated that roughly 10,000 people die from drinking un-safe water every day. Diseases caused by exposure to dirty water are the number one killer of infants in developing countries. Diarrhea alone accounts for 1.8 million deaths each year. Every day over 3,900 children die from drinking contaminated water. According to the World Health Organization 1.1 billion people lack access to clean water and over half of the hospital beds worldwide have people in them from drinking unsafe water.
Together GWG believes we can finally put an end to these alarming statistics. Anyone interested in donating ad space or other resources to aid in this worthy cause can find more information on the “Giving Water for Life” project at www.globalwatergroup.com.
